Ways to Prevent Mascara from Clumping

When it comes to our makeup must-haves, mascara should be on the top of your list. It does not only make your lashes gorgeous but it also makes your eyes more noticeable.  But messy, spidery lashes are from being beautiful. So here some ways to prevent mascara from clumping

Don’t use dried up mascara

One of the main reason why mascara clumps is because it’s all dried out. Perhaps your mascara is old or expired that’s why it’s all dried up. All makeup have expiry date, and eye makeup has shorter lifespan. So replace your mascara 3-6 months.

If your mascara is pretty new but already dried up, what you can do is to run the tube under hot water to help the contents to melt and flow better. You can also avoid drying up your mascara by not pumping brush up and down. This introduces a lot of air which can cause the mascara to thicken, dry out and make it more prone to clumping. So be sure you close the container tightly every time you use it.

Clean the brush often

Avoid overloading the brush.  Clean your brush often, get rid of excess on the opening of the container or wipe the brush on a piece of clean tissue or paper towel. Mascara is best applied one thin layer at a time so don’t overload the brush with too much product.

Use an eyelash comb

Once you have applied your mascara, take a clean eyelash comb and brush through lashes as if you were applying another coat. You can use a clean brush from an old mascara for this, or a disposable mascara applicator. Combing your lashes after applying mascara, ideally before it dries out will help you avoid clump.

Be sure your lashes are clean

Mascara is more likely to clump if your lashes aren’t clean, if there are still of mascara left over from the day before. It’s important that you remove all traces of eye makeup at night with a good eye makeup remover and start off each day with mascara free lashes.

Don’t’ apply too many coats

It’s ideal to apply two coats of mascara only. You can apply third coat, but be sure to apply the next coat when your lashes are still wet from the first coat, and you might also want to use your eyelash com every after application.

Curl your lashes before not after

This is really important, be sure to curl your lashes before you apply mascara not after. This can help separate your lashes and prevent from clumping together.
